Description of underwater pelletizing
In the under water pelletizing line, the mixed and molten polymer will be directly pelletized by rotating knife. Then the pellets will be immediately cooled and transported with water to the centrifugal dryer. It means, the cooling water contacts the die face and knife directly. After drying, the pellets will be collected and packaged for transport. Nowadays, the specific cutting process is widely used in the granulating system.
Introduction:
Underwater pelletizing is used for polymers that are difficult to process (e.g. sticky polymer). The melting emerges from the die plate and is knocked off by the pelletizing knives. The entire process takes place under water. In the centrifuge, the pellets are separated from the process water and dried.
Advantage of production and operation
• Tempered water system and dryer can be located away from extruder. More space saving than strand cutting granulating line.
• Preventing from the dropping strands or slow die holes interrupting the production.
• Minimal maintenance, only preventive maintenance needed.
• Less noise at high pelletizing speed
