STRAND PELLETIZING PROCESSING:

In plastic pelletizing process, the application of granulating equipment highly increases the efficiency and guarantees the high-quality of products. The detailed process is as following:

The molten polymer flows into the strand die which looks like a sheet die, and the material exits the die through multiple holes. Each hole shapes the material into polymer strand. The strands will be firstly cooled in water bath or trough, then dried by a de-watering unit or air knife, finally fed into a strand pelletizer, where they are cut into pellets. This pelletizing concept can also be called as "dry cut". In general, strand pelletizing is cutting the polymer into pellets after cooled and solidified which is convenient for storage and further application.

STRUCTURE OF GRANULATING LINE:

The strand cutting pelletizing line has a relative stable structure. According to the individual application, each component may have different importance for the whole pelletizing line. This needs a further discussion around the customized structure solution. The basic structure and their function of the whole line are listed as following.

Feed system: dossiers and feeds the resin and ingredients into the extruder for mixing and melting.

Extruder: mixes and melts all the materials, which have been fed into the extruder.

Strand die: shapes the molten polymer into strand.

Water bath: cools down the extruded strands into solid state.

Air knife/ Air stripper: removes the moisture on strand surface.

Pelletizer: chops the strand to defined length.

Classifier: filters out the over-and under-sized pellets and collects the pellets, which fit the pellets specification.

Conveys system: transports the first quality pellets for packaging.

CHARACTERS OF THE STRAND CUTTING LINE: 

Because of the simple structure of the plastic granulating line, the equipment investment is lower in comparison to other pelletizing solutions such as water ring granulating line and under water granulating line. The low equipment price with relative high performance is a significant advantage.

The simple structure can also provide customer a easier maintenance operation and lower repair cost.

The concept for extrusion, cooling and pelletizing is relative numerous, the single screw granulating line can fit almost all kinds of polymer.

However, the potential of strand broke could influence the production capacity and require relatively more human resource for production.
