Application of Pelletizing System
Pelletizing Lines are essential components in resin manufacture, compounding, masterbatch production, and recycling.
An appropriate pelletizing system for customer's production condition should conform to all requirements of customers and its advantages is high efficiency and fast capacity which is beneficial to the production.
Strand Pelletizing
Process description
In strand pelletizing, polymer is cut into pellets after cooled and solidified. The molten polymer flows into a strand die which looks like a sheet die, and the material exits the die through multiple holes. Each hole shapes the material into polymer strand. The strands will be firstly cooled in water bath or trough, then dried by a de-watering unit or air knife, finally are fed into a strand pelletizer, where they are cut into pellets. This pelletizing concept can also be called as "dry cut", and the strand will be pelletized after de-watering.
With water slide system, the water bath will be replaced. The extruded strands enter a water slide, in which spray nozzles cool the strands and provide a water flow that takes the strands toward the pelletizer. Before the pelletizer, the water will be away from the strand. But after pelletizing, the pellets will be flowed with water. The pellets can get further cooling. The pellets with water enter the centrifugal dryer at the dryer bottom. The de-watered pellets will be lifted at the top of the dryer. The pelletizing with water slide system can be called as "wet cut".
Feature of the Product
According to the pelletizing process, the pellets are cylindrical form. By "dry cut" , the flat end surface of the pellet can stick together and cause bridging.
Feature of Process
The process needs less investment than other pelletizing system. The Strand Pelletizing System has less automation grad and is more labor-intensive than other systems. The water bath means a much larger space for production. By dry cut, the pelletizer can cause dust and cutter wearing. The Strand Pelletizers are also more readily affected by process variations, which can cause dropped strands and other difficulties.
So the Strand Pelletizing is suitable for little investment, small volume and high frequency of material changing.
Pelletizing - The Last step of Recycling
After Washing, the dry and clean PET flakes will be transported to extruder. And in the extruder, the PET flakes are shaped into the granulates. Then the granulates are ready for next circle of the shaping as r-PET.
