The probe calibration  

The probe calibration of CMM is a very important link in the measurement process, the errors generated in the calibration process will affect the final measurement results, especially when the probe calibration with different positions, angles and lengths, the accuracy of the calibration results is particularly important.  If problems are found in the subsequent measurement process, the probe will need to be re-calibrated, which will greatly increase the workload and reduce the work efficiency.

Calibration tool: standard ball  

When the ruby ball is calibrated, it should be used with the standard ball.  The common standard ball diameter is generally between (10-50) mm, and its basic value and shape error have been calibrated according to the measurement technical specifications. The standard ball configured in the factory accessories will generally have a calibration certificate.  Before calibrating the probe, the probe must be defined in the measuring system, such as selecting the probe seat, probe, extension rod, probe pin, the actual diameter of the standard ball and other parameters. At the same time, the probe number needs to be defined, which can distinguish the position, Angle and length of the probe.

However, tooling Balls usually are assembled with tooling ball covers and block in automotive checking fixtures.
