Water bath vaporizers are a special type of coil-wound heat exchanger. They are used in petrochemical and cryogenic plants to vaporize liquefied gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, ethylene, propylene, and natural gas.

These vaporizers are designed specifically for high or medium rates and continuous duty, for distribution, project and plant back up applications utilizing an internal electric heater or an external water or steam source to provide the energy for vaporization or regasification of the stored liquid gas.

The liquid gas is vaporized through a tube bundle(s) by direct contact with the heat source (hot water). For the steam type water bath vaporizers, steam under pressure is injected into a large volume horizontal water storage tank, heating it to the designed operating temperature.
