Common materials and heat treatment of taps and die

(1) Hand tap and die, low cutting speed, thermal hardness is not required, can choose T10A and T12A steel manufacturing, and after quenching and low temperature tempering.

(2) Mechanical tap and die, because of high cutting speed, there are requirements for thermal hardness. High cutting speed (8 ~ 10m/min), requires high thermal hardness, can choose 9SiCr, 9Mn2V, CrWMn steel manufacturing. When the cutting speed reaches 25 ~ 55m/min, high thermal rigidity is required. W18Cr4V steel can be selected and made with proper heat treatment.
