UNS S32205 duplex stainless steel is designed to combine improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, crevice corrosion and high strength when compared with other stainless alloys
Duplex UNS S32205 duplex alloy resists chloride environments and sulphide stress corrosion
Duplex UNS S32205 is also roughly double the strength of standard austenitic stainless steels
These attributes mean that Duplex UNS S32205 can be used successfully as an alternative to standard stainless steel specifications in applications where higher strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking is required
When machining UNS S32205 turning feeds above 0.25mm are recommended whenever possible and SNMG120408 carbide tools are advised for optimum chip breaking of this duplex stainless steel specification
For drilling of UNS S32205 high pressure lubrication is recommended and coated carbide tools are preferred
Characteristics of S32205:
High resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-bearing environments
High resistance to stress corrosion cracking in environments containing hydrogen sulphide
High resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion
High resistance to erosion corrosion and corrosion fatigue
High mechanical strength - roughly twice the proof strength of austenitic stainless steel
