The metal to metal seat floating ball valve and trunnion mounted metal to metal seat ball valve are kind of important oil and gas industry valves when the working temperature is out of limitation of soft seat material or when it’s requested by abrasive service like black water. 

The floating ball of forged steel floating ball valve is not fixed to the stem and is allowed some freedom of floating ball movement through the key slot. With the floating ball valve, the upstream fluid pressure assists the seal by pushing the ball back against the rear or downstream seat.

The API 6D trunnion mounted metal to metal seat ball valve has two floating seats with springs loaded, in which the ball is fixed at two pivot points, and the process pressure pushes the upstream seat against the ball's sealing surface. This trunnion mounted ball metal seat design applies continuous pressure against a trunnion mounted ball after the ball is installed. The metal to metal seat trunnion mounted ball valve is one kind of important oil and gas industry valves widely used in oil and gas industry when the working temperature is higher out of limitation of soft seat material or when it’s requested by abrasive service like black water. When the size bigger than 10” or pressure class higher than Class600, the trunnion type ball valve will be applied to replace floating ball valve. Trunnion valve can be applied to higher pressure class and bigger size.
